Kelly Nordby serves as the Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less Program Coordinator and Instructor. Prior to this opportunity, Kelly worked at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill since 2003, most recently for the Center for Training and Research Translation (Center TRT), a CDC-funded center at UNC Chapel Hill as the Nutrition and Physical Activity Specialist. In this role, she developed web-based training modules for public health practitioners in the areas of Nutrition and Health, Physical Activity and Health, Cardiovascular Health, and Childhood Obesity. Also, in this role she collaborated with state-level public health practitioners to coordinate the review of evidence for obesity prevention policy and environmental change interventions for dissemination on the Center TRT website and assisted with content development for the annual obesity prevention course for state-level practitioners.
Formerly, Kelly served as the Managing Director for the NIH-funded UNC Clinical Nutrition Research Center in the Department of Nutrition and as the project coordinator for several choline (nutritional supplement) research studies which examined the its effects on memory development in infants. Kelly also worked at RTI International, PPD, and the Kennedy-Krieger Institute as a feeding therapist for children with developmental disabilities before returning to graduate school to earn her Masters in Public Health (MPH) and Registered Dietitian (RD) credentials at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a Tar Heel second, and a Hokie first where she earned her Bachelors Degree at Virginia Tech in Exercise Science. In her spare time, Kelly enjoys jazzercising, running, and spending time with her husband, 10-year old son and 7-year old daughter that keep her “moving more”.
